First of all, one should remove all the fuel from the heater tank. This can be done through dry burning the heater. It should be done in an open and well-ventilated space to avoid harmful gas and also an unpleasant smell of kerosene.

When the heater tank is completely empty, you can remove the carbon deposition on the wick. This process should be done when you are not interested to replace the heater’s wick.

Always remember that the cleaning process should be performed only after the heater has completely cooled down.

How To Put A Wick In A Kerosene Heater

Disassemble the Heater

When the heater is completely cool, you can remove the wick. At this stage, you should remove the wick adjuster and batteries. Open the grill of the heater and remove the catalytic converter. You should take care while removing the converter as it is made of glass so it is advisable to handle it with care to avoid any damage.

Likewise remove all the accessories of the heater such as a cabinet, windshield, and wick assembly with the help of a screwdriver. After removing the wick assembly you can easily remove the old wick.  You can mark the area of the old wick for proper positioning of the new wick.

Insert the New Wick

Follow the mark you have created while removing the old wick. To insert a wick fold it into half and insert it deeply into the container up to that mark you have made earlier at the removal of the old wick. There should be no gap between the wick and the wick holder. Set the wick by pushing it inside. Once done, release the wick to get its original shape. This way wick will itself attach to the teeth of the container holder. Reattach the holder to the heater.

Reassemble The Heater

After inserting a new wick, reassemble the heater. Check the wick’s up and down movement with a wick adjuster knob. Now you can tighten the screw of the wick assembly unit. Follow the proper steps to reassemble the unit and make sure every part of the kerosene heater is properly fixed. Light the heater and check its flame. Now your heater is ready to use.

Final Thoughts

Kerosene heater is very simple to operate and easy to maintain. Proper cleaning and maintenance of the wick also make the kerosene heater durable and long-lasting. So enjoy the warmness of a kerosene heater with a new wick.
